Seminar #1:

Performance, Reading

John Hall

Saturday, 11 March, 10:00 am, The Pit, Te Ara Hihiko (Block 12), Massey University Wellington campus

This workshop takes as its premise that any act of reading whatever “very much including a solitary silent reading" is necessarily also an act of performance, and that this performance is necessarily in itself a mode of interpretation. Different kinds of text call for different approaches to reading and the focus in this workshop will be on performing readings of page-based poems - possibly including visual poems - and on the different decisions made by participants in their readings of the same poem. The emphasis will be on developing the topic through the actual practice of reading aloud rather than on lengthy discussion. It would be useful to include one poem in a language other than English, submitted and read by a participant without commentary or translation. If you are reasonably fluent in a language other than English please bring a short poem with you to read for the group.

This seminar is limited to 12 participants. Sign up on the Lil'Reggie site. A wait list will be generated if it fills to capacity. https://performing-writing-2017.lilregie.com/step1
